Article
in local Town Crier business guide
We have built up what we consider to be a pretty solid
reputation in our local area and the majority of local
business comes from word of mouth referrals and
recommendations from previous customers. We rely very
little on advertising as we'd prefer to keep our costs low
rather than spend out on expensive advertising that rarely
brings profitable results in our industry.
We were
someone overwhelmed when one of our customers wrote an
article about us in a local business magazine following
some work we had done on their computer though...

Little
Acorns Childminding Group
RASCOM
I.T. provide regular support for this Calne-based
childminders support group. We have donated prizes of
computer equipment to their Charity Balls in 2007 and 2008
and also host and maintain their website.
At their
2008 Charity Ball, the group raised over £1500 of which over
£1000 was donated in gifts and toys to the Childrens Ward at
the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

RNLI
Lifeboat Station (Tenby)
Through
our sister website
Touchscreens Direct, we have recently supplied a new
interactive touchscreen system for the RNLI Lifeboat Station
at Tenby.
The system
is being used both to show interactive presentations on the
invaluable work done by those who man the station and also
to provide an interactive educational experience for people
of all ages to give them a better understanding both of how
the station runs and also the importance of sea safety.
Rascom
I.T. supplied both a computer system and one of Elo
TouchSystems' flagship 2200L APR touchscreen monitors to the
station.
We look
forward to working with the RNLI on other projects in the
future.

Calne Heritage
Centre
Rascom I.T. supplied two interactive touchscreen systems
for the Calne Heritage Centre which were installed in February
2006.
The aim of each system was to expand on the existing
static informational content within the Centre through the use
of on-screen visuals and multimedia technology.
The first
system, Calne Transformed, used a custom-built application to
show a series of photographs and descriptive text; the second
system Calne Miscellany initially included nine digital reproductions
of rare archive video footage depicting notable events for the
town such as the demise of the Harris Bacon Factory and Royal
visits.
Further multimedia content was added in August
2006.

Local and
Regional Advertising
In our industry, there are so many other companies offering
similar services that many feel it is a case of just picking
a supplier at random when looking for someone to provide or
assist with computer services. At Rascom I.T. we have
tried a variety of methods to generate new business including
advertising in many of the major paper-based and online directories.
Many have sadly resulted in very few opportunities for us.
Our best form
of advertising is word-of-mouth. Through recommendations
and hearsay we have built a customer-base not only within our
local area but further afield in areas such as Bristol, Wales,
Cornwall, the Midlands, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. We
would far rather that happy customers tell others of
our services which costs us nothing rather than spending high
amounts of money on high-profile advertising that may or may
not generate new business but will almost certainly impact on
our own costs thus potentially affecting the costs we have to
charge to our customers.
